Getting the ball rolling again

Last night we attended an event sponsored by the ONLY local adoption agency in town. They will have to do our home study, so we thought it would be a good idea to go so that we can get to know them a bit better.

It turned out to be a very informal event with several adoptees/adoptive parents sharing their stories. There were a number of families who adopted internationally, one that went through the foster care system and one that adopted a baby domestically. It was good to hear some of their adoption stories, but Bill wished that there were more domestic adoptions to hear about, too. We were able to get an information packet from the agency while we were there and let them know we wanted a follow up call. Soooooooo, I guess I better get ready for a home study!

One of the attendees asked about what was involved in a home study, but the answer was not very specific. There'll be some paperwork (better get used to that), some counseling and some interviews with a social worker. Hopefully, we can get that process completed quickly!

Our home study was pretty easy although I admit to being quite stressed heading into it. A couple interviews on different days at our apartment, and the lady looked all through the place. There was some intensive questionnaire paperwork that really made us wrack our brains.

That's what I anticipate being our least favorite part of the process. We both deal with a lot of paperwork at our jobs - and then we get more in order to adopt. Ugh. =/

Sorry we missed their event! It's always great to go & be around other families who are going through the process too.

Our Homestudy Social Worker was amazing!!! I wish she was still here (she finished up ours & moved outta state) ... she made it so easy ... and fun! ... on all of us. Don't sweat it - portions of it will feel like show n' tell! ;)

Thanks, Chelsey! I'm not too nervous about it - just anticipating a whole lotta "stuff" to deal with. =)
